8 Frequently Asked Questions

How many photographs do you take? I do not limit the amount of photographs taken. Two things affect quantity. Time, the more time the more photos. The second has to do with the reception. The more dancing the more opportunity for photos. It is important to give you as much variety and selection as possible.  I take both “posed” and “un-posed photojournalistic” photos. This way you are assured that all the fun, excitement, and special moments of your day are captured.

How many weddings have you photographed? On average I do 45 to 50 weddings a year. I have photographed over 2,000 weddings of every ethnicity and religion.

What do you wear to the wedding? Some photographers and videographers show up wearing jeans and t-shirts. Unless the bride and groom tell me otherwise I wear a black tuxedo. For most weddings I feel anything less is inappropriate.

How many photographers show up at the wedding?
I do all the photography, but I do bring an assistant. During the ceremony I give my assistant a second camera to shoot from a different angle. This is so I don’t move around too much and become a distraction. The rest of the time the assistant helps me with the lighting. It is more important to have an assistant as a second light person than a second photographer. A second light person is essential to compensate for different lighting situations both indoor and outdoor. This allows the photographer to create clarity and depth in the photos as well as creative effects. Having one photographer that is well trained and knows exactly where to be at all times is worth more than 3 photographers that constantly get in your face and each others way.

How many hours do you stay? Although the price is based on 6 hours you have me up to 8 hours. I start 2 hours before ceremony with the bride and bridesmaids getting ready.
We have children in our bridal party. Children have different personalities just like adults.  But more important, the same child goes through different phases depending on the age.  A good photographer will be able to decipher at what point that child is at.  Once this is done getting the child to cooperate is simple. Children’s portraiture is my specialty.

How early should we choose a photographer? As soon as possible!  In today’s digital world it seems that everyone with a camera is a photographer. If choosing a competent, well trained, professional is important to you do not put it off.  Talented and creative photographers will be taken early by the brides who are concerned about the quality of their wedding memories. The longer you wait the less the choice.

Why do photographers charge what they charge? There are 3 things that affect the price of a photographer. First and most important is the photographers’ skill level and experience. The more educated in photography and the more years of experience the more the photographer is worth. No amount of equipment can save a bad photographer. Second is the amount of time the photographer dedicates to you before, during, and after the wedding. For every hour of photography a top notch photographer will spend another 1 to 2 hours on editing your photos for color and density accuracy. This ensures that when prints are made they are the finest possible. Third is the quantity and quality of the equipment. Newer up to date cameras, lenses, computers and software are costly but necessary to complement the photographer’s ability.

In the end it comes down to an old but true saying. You get what you pay for.
